December 2, 2008 - Our Annual General Meeting and Awards Night will be on Thursday December 18 at 7:00pm at Centennial High School. There will be no practice.
November 29, 2008 - Last Chance Meet - Edmonton
The Last Chance Meet is a last chance to break some records or personal bests before everybody moves up a year by January 1. Jill was eager to attack the Provincial Record for 17 year olds in the 60 meter hurdles, but she failed to drive hard towards the first hurdle and needed one step too many to clear the obstacle, forcing her to make another extra step to rectify the count. Her 9.33 was disapointing, but luckily there is another 'last chance' next week. Ex-Warrior Rachel Machin succeeded to brake her own Provincial Record for 16 year olds and she dipped under 9 seconds for the first time: 8.90. Jill won the long jump with a jump of 5.32m, not bad after not having practiced the long jump since August.
Stephanie Graham had to run her 1500m without much opposition. Leading from start to finish she won in 5:19.63, six seconds above her outdoor best (but an indoor PB). Mihai Prajea ran a good 400m, placing second in 52.19, an indoor personal best. In the 800m he took it out a little too slow (62 sec for the first 400m), and being passed around the next corner he faild to hang in there with the leaders, finishing third in 2:04.12 . Stephen Payne had to deal with some nerves and an upset stomach, so his tetrathlon didn't go as well as he had hoped. He finished in 4th place. Photos. Results.

August 10, 2008 - Canadian Legion and Youth Championships - Day 2
The second day of the championships brought disappointment for our two Warriors competing in individual events. Jill's triple jump was not very good, hindered by sore feet she didn't make the top eight and jumped about a meter under her best jump (9.98m). Her 3rd jump was of better quality, but just fault. Mihai started strong in the 400m hurdles running in second place half way, but then he started hitting hurdle after hurdle which slowed him down a lot, and then he fell over the last hurdle, stood up and finished in 59.57 for tenth place overall. Jill, Rachel and Mihai took part in the 4x100m women's and men's Alberta relay teams, both teams got fourth place. Team Alberta ended up third overall behind Ontario and B.C, but before Quebec, and that hasn't hapened in a long time. The end of a long season... Results. Pictures.
August 9, 2008 - Alberta Summer Games
Six Warrior athletes took part in the Alberta Summer Games: Robynne Thompson, Claire Brideson, Josee Ostrosser, Megan MacKay, Cam Hunter and Doug Patterson. The results show clearly that you cannot expect to get great results without doing the necessary training for it. Robynne and Claire won bronze medals in respectively the 400m and 800m. They were also members of the Calgary zone gold winning medley relay team. Cam placed 4th in the 100 and 200m. Doug ran a good 400m in 55.60 and Cam and Doug were part of the 4x100m team that won the gold medal. Megan got 5th place in the long jump (4.50m) and Josee 6th in the 100m. Results.
August 9, 2008 - Canadian Legion and Youth Championships - Day 1
Jill: 100mH 14.32 (3rd), LJ 5.49m (4th).
Rachel: 100mH 14.94 (7th), HJ 1.60m (shared 5th), LJ 5.22m (7th).
Mihai: Silver in the 4x400m relay.
A not so great start kept Jill from winning silver in the 100m hurdles. She was 2/100 of a second shy of second place after coming on strong in the last part of the race. Her 14.32 was a personal best and new club record, good for the bronze medal.. Rachel ran a good race, finishing in her second best time ever. She had a very good series in the long jump, but trouble hitting the board (5.21 and 5.22 each twice, without hitting the board). 5.50m would have been possible. Her high jmp was interrupted by the hurdle heats, which made it a difficult event (again). Jill had some difficulty getting going in the long jump at first, saving her best jump till last. Mihai ran a mediocre 400m in lane one (53.93), saving his energy for the more important 400m hurdles tomorrow. He did much better in the 4x400m where team Alberta captured a silver medal. Congratulations, Warriors! Results Day 1.
August 6, 2008 - Jill, Rachel and Mihai off to Canadian Youth Championships.
Today Jill MacEachen, Rachel Machin and Mihai Prajea left for Legion Nationals in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The track at Sherbrooke University is one of the fastest in Canada, boasting a Mondo surface. Jill will compete in the 100m hurdles, long jump and triple jump, Rachel in the 100m hurdles, long jump and high jump and Mihai in the 400m and the 400m hurdles. They will also compete in the 4x100m relay and Mihai in the 4x400m. The competition in the juvenile category is the official Canadian Youth Championships with entries through the Legion program and outside the Legion (first time this year). So there will be even tougher competition than in previous years. We wish them good fortune in all their events.
July 29, 2008 - Alister McQueen wins silver in the 100m and 200m at the IWAS Junior World Games.
At the IWAS (International Weelchair and Amputees Sports Federation)
Junior World Games in Piscataway, New Jersey, Alister ran 12.37 in the 100m (Personal Best) and 25.33 in the 200m, good for 2nd place in both events. Athletes from all over the world participated in this meet. Congratulations, Alister.
July 27, 2008 - Junior Nationals Day 3 - Kayti's Day.
On the last day of the championships, Kayti Simonson shocked our world by performing the 'impossible'. After a season of injuries and lacklustre performances - even the previous day in the semi-finals - suddenly the tide turned and Kayti exceeded herself by running the B final of the 400m hurdles in a new personal best of 61.88 (previously 62.49), good for an 8th place overall. It shows how you with a positive attitude and concentration on the goal can achieve 'the impossible'. Congratulations, Kayti! Jill won a silver medal as a member of the 4x100 Alberta relay team. Jenny Rintoul (Edmonton), Jill MacEachen (Airdrie), Lacy Miller (Coaldale) and Loudia Laarman (Lethbridge) ran a good time of 48.08, finishing behind Manitoba, but before B.C. Well done.
July 26, 2008 - Junior Nationals Day 2 - Warriors and Team Alberta Pictures

Rachel, Kayti and Jill at Junior Nationals
Jill won the B-Final in the 100m hurdles in the personal best time of 14.83 for an overall 8th place finish. Well done, Jill. Rachel Machin did a great job in the high jump. After clearing 1.65m she just missed 1.68m in her first attempt. Then she had to run the hurdles B-Final (15.12 for overall 12th place), and when she came back to high jump the bar was at 1.71m. She had one pretty good attempt at 1.71, didn't clear, but a very good high jump day for Rachel, finishing in 9th spot as a first year juvenile. Well done. In the long jump final Rachel grabed 9th place as well, jumping 5.15m. Kayti placed for the B-final in the 400m hurdles, her heat time was 64.55.

July 25, 2008 - Junior Nationals Day1
Both Jill and Rachel placed for the B Final in the 100m hurdles. Jill was unlucky to hit the first hurdle which may have cost her a spot in the A final. Jill was unlucky in the long jump qualification too. She faulted her first jump by just a little bit in a jump that would easily qualify her. Then she faulted her second jump. Her last jump was only 5.21m, which ranked her 13th (top 12 qualify). Rachel had a solid first jump (5.32m) that put her in the long jump finals tomorrow. She will be a busy body with finals in the 100m hurdles, high jump and long jump. Results.

Robynne ran her first 400m hurdles and managed to win the gold in 67.07. Claire had no competition in the 800m because Jean Bolen is suffering a stress fracture. Jill, favorite for the title already, did what was expected by winning the triple jump (10.88m). Stephen did well in the bantam combined events existing out of the 200m, long jump, shot put and 800m after the day before conquering the hurdles, ball throw, high jump and 1000m. Mihai finished third in the 800m in 1:58.80.

Results. Pictures. Note regarding the pictures - because of coaching duties I don't have pictures of everybody :-(
June 28, 2008 - Alberta Age Class Championships
First Day Results: Gold for Rachel Machin in the 100m hurdles juvenile, high jump juvenile and long jump junior. Gold for Jill MacEachen in the long jump juvenile. Gold for the 4x100m juvenile girls (Josée Ostrosser, Megan MacKay, Robynne Thompson and Jill MacEachen). Silver for Jill in the 100m hurdles, for Robynne Thompson in the 400m and Garret South in the 110m hurdles. Silver for the 4x100m juvenile boys (Cam Hunter, Doug Freeman, Mihai Prajea and Alister McQueen). Bronze for Stephen Payne in the bantam combined events.
Rachel had a personal best in the 100m hurdles heats: 14.88 against a negative wind, so there is still room for improvement. She as well had a legal personal best in the long jump: 5.27m against a 2.5m/sec. headwind.
Jill is slowly approaching the hurdle times she ran last year, 14.99 was her best time and seasonal best this meet, and she jumped 5.33m in the long jump. Garrett South's time in the 110m hurdles was 16.95 (PB).
I don't have all the exact results yet of all our other participants, but what I know is that Josée Ostrosser had a personal best in the long jump (4.89m) good for 4th , while Megan Mackay (competing in the Midget Dual Meet) placed 6th with 4.67m. Claire Brideson placed 4th in the 400m, Cam Hunter placed 5th in the 100m (11.43). Jennifer Paul ran well in the 1500m (Midget Dual), with a time of around 5 min. she placed 3rd .
Both Paul Sands and Matthew Brideson ran personal bests in the 400m (58.99 and 59.37 respectively). Matt can now boast that he ran faster than his sister. Claire ran 61.65 and Shaina Humble ran 64.04 in the 400m. Both Dougs (Freeman and Patterson) ran the 400m as well, Doug F experiencing that lack of training because of health reasons makes you slower (Freeman 56.76, Patterson 57.09). Mihai Prajea found out that it is not smart to play tennis the day before a meet. 53.31 was the result.
Stephen Payne and Cody Crook ran very well in the 1000m Bantam Boys with 3:16.14 (P.B.) and 3:25.55 respectively. A good day for the Warriors. Congratulations to all.

June 1, 2008 - New Balance Athletic Series #2
Lesson #1 - never leave with your draw prize ticket in your pocket. If you don't want to stay, give it to someone else to collect your price! Two people with winning tickets (shoes/spikes) left prematurely... Your coach Jan stayed around and won a pair of running shoes! The girls 4x800 still get their socks (1 pair each, the boys got 2 pairs).
Jill won the triple jump with a wind-aided peersonal best of 11.09m. Josee Ostrosser placed 3rd in the 100m and Kelcey Miller 3rd in the 300m hurdles. Doug Freeman ran personal bests in the 100m (11.84 and 11.73 wind aided) and in the 400m (54.47). Results.

May 17-18, 2008 - Calgary Spring Challenge and Combined Events meet
Calgary Warriors competed very well in the Calgary Spring Challenge and Combined Events meet. At least 20 top-three finishes and handfuls of personal bests.
Jill MacEachen was again our top performer with four first places (100m, 200m, 100mH and Long jump). Her 25.93 in the 200m is a strong new personal best. Mihai Prajea scored two top finishes in the 400m (51.48) and 400m hurdles (56.75 for a PB), and he placed 3rd in the 800m. Robynne Thompson won her 400m race in a promising 60.30, and she placed 3 rd in the 200m. Claire Brideson ran a strong race from start to finish in the 800m in 2:21.88, finishing first ahead of Jean Bolen, who finished 3rd in the 1500m. Claire added a 3rd place finish in the 400m. Cam Hunter won the 100m race, his time being not up to par yet after injury and illness. In the 200m he finished 2nd.
Rachel Machin took on the heptathlon and she did that in a grand way. She broke the provincial record by over 100 points, for a total of 4301 points. The very strong 800m runner Laura Affeld (Edmonton Harriers) scored 55 points more however, so she will go in the record books. Undoubtedly Rachel’s best performance of the weekend was her 1.67m high jump, 5cm better than her PB from California during spring training. There were medals for top-5 finishers in each heat, 4x100 boys and girls ended up with 5th place medals. March 27, 2008 - Spring Training Camp Update
Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, south of San Diego. In the afternoon everyone (except Kayti who has an injured adductor) was able to run a 100m or 400m during a high school dual meet at the track where we are training. The results show that everyone is somewhat tired, having two practices a day for most of the week. Results. Pictures.

March 22, 2008 - Warriors compete at Falcon Relays in San Diego, CA
The first competition of our spring training camp brought some very good results. Our top performer in the High School meet was Rachel Machin who won the 100m hurdles in 15.28 and the long jump with a jump of 5.42m. Rachel placed second in the high jump with 1.62m, all excellent personal bests. A very good showing as well by Cam Hunter who won the Division 2 100m in a new personal best of 11.25. The 4x100m both boys and girls won with ease their races (44.97 and 50.60). Jean Bolen ran very well in the 800m, placing second in 2:19.32, and Koby Hannem ran a PB in the 400m (50.76), good for second. Jill MacEachen, still recovering from a nasty flu that didn't enable her to train very much the last three weeks, placed second in the long jump (5.33m) and in the hurdles (15.58) behind Rachel. Claire Brideson won third place in the 400m in 62.05 sec. Alex Tooby ran in a different (College) meet, were she finished 7th in the finals of the 100m (13.17) after running 13.12 in the heats against a -2.2 head wind. Alex ran 27.13 in the 200m. Results.

March 6, 2008 - Indoor Club Records and All-Time Indoor Rankings Updated. Club Records.
March 2, 2008 - Rachel Machin sets new Provincial Record in the 60m hurdles 16 & under, double gold for Jill MacEachen (60mH and LJ), gold for Cameron Hunter (60m) end Rachel Machin (HJ). Silver for Jill (60m), Jean Bolen (1500m), Rachel (LJ and 60mH), Jennifer Paul (800m, 1500m), Cam (200m) and Mihai Prajea(400m), bronse for Claire Brideson (800m), Koby Hannem (400m) and Mihai (800m).
The new Provincial Record in the 60m hurdles for Rachel Machin in the Juvenile 16 & under category, was one of the highlights of the Provincial Indoor Championships. She took over the record previously held by Jill MacEachen, beating it by 0.17 seconds after a close race that Jill won by a hair: 9.05 and 9.06 (9.046 and 9.051 to be exact, which is only a 5/1000 of a second difference). Jill’s ill-health prevented her from running under 9 seconds, so we have to wait for her attack on the 17 & under record till the end of the year. Her personal best of 7.98 the previous day in the 60m without hurdles – good for a 2nd place behind Loudia Laarman – promises great hurdle times in the outdoor season.
Another highlight was Cameron Hunter’s golden performance in the Juvenile Boys 60m. He was the strength of the field, winning convincingly in the personal best and new club record time of 7.24. Very strong performances as well by Claire Brideson, who smashed her personal bests in the 400m and 800m, setting a new club record in the 800m (16 & under) in 2:21.84, Jean Bolen (1500m in 4:53.36 – club record), Jennifer Paul with two great races in the 800m and 1500m (2:23.71 and 5:00.41 for two new club records) and Mihai Prajea who updated the club record list in the 400m and 800m with his times of 52.78 and 2:00.79.
There were about 45 personal bests in this meet for our Warriors, too many to mention them all, so check it out by clicking the Warriors Results link. I want to mention a few: Stephanie Chins great debut in the 800m (2:33.16), Alex Tooby’s 8.18 in the 60m, Kelsey Ross’ 800 (2:39.47) and 1500m (5:36.01, an improvement by 20 seconds), Sara Lopez’ 800m (2:39.25), Stephen Payne’s 800m (2:27.61), having improved his time in every race he ran this indoor season, and Matt Brideson’s 400m (60.73), staying ahead of his sister again.
Congratulations to all, well done and we cannot wait to see what is going to happen during the upcoming outdoor season. Warriors Results. Complete Results.
February 25, 2008 - Warriors head to Edmonton coming week-end for Indoor Provincial Championships.
Thirthy-six Warriors will compete at the Provincial Championships March 1-2. Coaches Al, Eddie and Jan have high expectations for some excellent performances. Keaton, Cam, Mihai, Koby, Jill, Rachel, Jean, Kayti, Robynne and Jennifer are favorites to capture one or more medals in several running and jumping events. Good luck to all!
February 16, 2008 - Jean, Jill and Rachel had EXCELLENT performances at the Simplot Games in Idaho.
. . .
About 2000 high school athletes from 22 states and Canada, 23 heats in the boys 400m, 17 heats in the girls 60m hurdles, 72 girls entered in the long jump, imagine – and all events ran on time! A very high level meet, just look at the results on the Simplot games website.
Jill MacEachen came up with the best placing: 6th in the 60m hurdles in a new personal best of 9.05, finishing as the first 11th grader. Next to that she placed 7th in the long jump with a jump of 5.37m. Great job, Jill. Video hurdles.
Then what to say about Jean Bolen. Jean ran a perfect race (and you run a perfect race only a few times in your life). She came into the B final as the slowest qualifier, but finished first for an overall 8 th place in an outstanding new personal best of 2:18.14. Very well done, Jean. Video 800m.
Finally our Benjamin Rachel Machin. She finished an overall 10th in the 60m hurdles in a great new personal best of 9.11, being the highest placed 10th grader in the hurdles.
Besides that she earned a joined 10th place in the high jump (1.52m). Congratulations, Rachel. Video hurdles.

February 15, 2008, Pocatello, ID – Warriors make it to finals in Simplot Games.
Jill was the first to qualify for a final by jumping over the qualifying standard of 5.11m in her first jump. Only 8 girls achieved this standard, so a top-8 spot is assured.
Rachel qualified with ease for the high jump finals, 21 girls made the qualifying height of 1.49m.
Both Jill and Rachel qualified for the hurdle finals, grabbing 11th and 13th spot in the prelims. Times 9.36 and 9.50 on flats, 18 girls qualify.
Jean took 19th spot to place for the 800m finals (27 qualify), time 2:23.48. Results.
February 9-10, 2008 – Provincial Indoor Relay and Combined Events Championships: Warriors Dominate the Relays.
Warriors relay teams took 11 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals in the Provincial Relay Championships. It is true that the competition was disappointing, many clubs showing no interest in competing at all, but many of the performances by the Warriors teams were of high quality with provincial records in the midget and juvenile girls medley relays (400-200-200-800) and in the 4x100m juvenile boys.
Laura Haigh, Megan MacKay, Josée Ostrosser and Jennifer Paul broke the old midget medley relay record by 17 seconds, posting a time of 4:35.06. Claire Brideson, Robynne Thompson, Jill MacEachen and Jean Bolen scored 4:21.10 in the juvenile girls medley, braking the old record by 22 seconds. Well done, ladies. Our strong juvenile boys’ team, existing as always of Cam, Doug F, Mihai and Keaton, broke their own 4x100m record, setting a new time of 45.84. Congratulations!
In the Combined Events part we had an outstanding performance by Rachel Machin, winning the pentathlon juvenile girls in convincing manner, setting a new provincial record in the process and scoring personal bests in 4 out of 5 events. Her results: 60mH 9.37, HJ 1.57, SP 8.95, LJ 5.29m and 2:45.32 in the 800m for a total of 3149 points (old record 2895 pts, and only 18 points shy of the record for 17 year olds!).
Another outstanding performance was delivered by Jill MacEachen in the long jump with an excellent effort of 5.64m, showing that she is on her way to a great season again. Jill and Rachel ran the junior height hurdles as preparation for the meet in Idaho next weekend, showing that they are ready for performing well in the Simplot Games where the top high school athletes from the USA will give ‘acte de présence.’ Rachel almost beat Jill, having a slight lead at the first 4 out of 5 hurdles, but Jill pressed just a little harder towards the finish line: 9.27 (PB) and 9.31 (PB).
Many more personal bests again this meet:
Stephen Payne in the 800m (2:29.01) – running faster every meet, long jump (3.78m) and shot put (5.59m), Josée Ostrosser (27.73), Cam Hunter (23.86) and Chris Moss (26.23) in the 200m, Alister McQueen in the 60m (8.29) and Kris de Palezieux (2:11.29) and Jimmy Machin (2:14.97) in the 800m. Danielle Cant made an excellent debut in the midget girls 200m in 28.21.
Overall a great weekend again for the Calgary Warriors. Results.
Upcoming meets: Simplot Games, Pocatello, Idaho: February 15-16.
Good luck to Rachel Machin, Jill MacEachen, Jean Bolen and Koby Hannem who will be competing there against North America’s best.

February 2, 2008 - Warriors perform well in the Jack Simpson Open with wins for Stephen Payne in the 400m and 1000m for 13 year olds, Matt Brideson in the 400m (14y olds) in 62.21, which is a new club record, Megan MacKay in the 60m (8.42, 14y olds), Jill MacEachen in the 60m hurdles (9.09, equaling her PB) and the 60m (8.08 PB) and Koby Hannem in the 400m (52.24 indoor PB). Ashleigh Abrams ran a good 1000m, finishing 3rd in the 14y category, while Jennifer Paul moved up to the open race to finish 3rd there in 3:08.18, which is a new club record. The midget girls (Danielle Cant, Stephanie Chin, Jenna Anthony and Megan MacKay) blew away the field in the 4x200m. Rachel Machin clipped the first hurdle but saved herself to finish in 2nd place behind Jill. Alister McQueen was a little disappointed that the world record holder in the 100m for above the knee amputees didn't show up, but he still ran well, close to his PB. Well done Warriors. Complete results. Rankings after 3 meets .
