Although high jumper Mark MacEachen had enough height above the bar, lack of enough practice leading up to the meet was probably the main cause of not able to clear more than 1.80m. You need the rhythm of having it done many, many times to be successful.
Our midget Shaunie Morrison had to face a different obstacle - a row of hurdles sitting at the wrong height in the 80m hurdles final. She hit the hurdle really hard with her knee, giving her a disadvantage for the re-run final a little later. A seventh place finish in 12.10 was the result, but it could have been so much better. Shaunie was unlucky in the 200m hurdles final too - it just started raining and the wind changed directions, and with her knee still bothering her, she had some trouble getting her steps right. A sixth place finish in 29.44. Quite good for a first year athlete, but we had hoped for something more.
Maria Bernard first ran the 1500m. This was one of the ugliest races I have ever seen - bumping, elbows, pushing, struggling for position, and many pace changes because of that. Seventh place in 4.44.33. The 3000m was more user friendly, the pace was good for a long time with Maria at the back of the leading group. With 3 more laps to go Maria had moved up to about fourth, but she failed to stay with the top three when they started their final acceleration at 600m before the finish. Maria finished in 10:13.40 in fourth place, just 4 seconds shy of her personal best. Well done.
Team Alberta had their ups and downs, 3 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals. Canadian Youth records for the 4x100m U18 Girls (47.79) and Sage Watson in the 300m hurdles (43.28). The 3rd gold was for Niki Oudenaarden in the Heptathlon. The Alberta Youth Team finished in third overall, the final scores and results are not posted as of yet.

Alberta Summer Games Report from Beautiful Peace River
July 22, 2010
The event commenced Monday evening with a very nice opening ceremonies, starting with a 1900 strong athlete parade, short and sweet dignitary speeches, entertainment and words of inspiration an encouragement from officials and Olympians alike. The event was very well organized with an excellent transportation system for athletes to travel to and from the mess hall, the arts / cultural and fun events around town, as well as the venues. The number of helpful volunteers was amazing, seemingly the whole community was involved in supporting the events. The meet was held on a newly constructed track with the steep Peace River Valley wall as a back drop. The two days were scorching hot, with a temperature of 34C on Wednesday, and to top it off, no flying critters were seen the whole time.
Three warriors were on the team, Stephen Payne, Scott MacKay and Sydney Krill. Tuesday started of with Sydney placing 4th in the 300M, Scott placing fourth in the 300M and in the last of event of the day Sydney won a bronze medal in the the Medley Relay (400M, 200M, 200M 800M) which is a very exciting event to watch.
On Wednesday morning Stephen started out with the 2000M race finishing strongly for a 5th place finish. Sydney ran her 200M heat and qualified for the afternoon final where she finished in 4th. Scott and Stephen ran in the 200mH, with Stephen finishing in 10th and Scott, in his best event, dominating the field to win Gold by 1.76s. Later in the afternoon Scott ran the 800M finishing 4th. At the end of the day Scott ran with the 4x100M relay team which unfortunately was DQ'd, passing the baton outside the area. In the end three Warriors contributed a Gold, a Bronze, four fourths and fifth to the Zone 3 points total.
Scott was also featured in a Global TV, Alberta Summer Games news feature. Also here is a link to another Summer Games TV feature.

That means some fresh club record holders in those events as well: Graham Ross in the Midget (14) and Trevor Hilton in the Midget (15). Matthew Galea broke the 3000m club record for Youth (16) in the Dino Opener. Check our updated club record list and see how close YOU are to breaking a club record!
Back to the Jack Simpson Open: winning performances for Ryan Smeeton (600m), Graham Ross (1200m), Matthew Reckord (60m and 300m - both PBs); second places for Jeff Hudson (60m and 300m, PBs), Natalie McDougall (60m - PB), Shaunie Morrison (300m - PB), Daelin Nordmark (300m - PB), and third place finishes for Trevor Hilton (1200m), Natalie in the 300m in a year older age group, Shaunie (60m - PB), Daelin (60m) and Eric Smeeton in the 300m. Since our youth and junior athletes often have to compete in the open category, they will not make top-three finishes, but all our youth and junior men (Corey Minton, Paul Sands, Matt Brideson, Doug Patterson and Nikola Dragicevic) ran Personal Bests in the 300m.
Good improvements for Corey Minton in both the 60m and 300m (7.40 and 38.43), being the fastest Warrior on the day. Overall a great meet again for the Warriors. Congratulations to all.

Warriors Perform Well at Golden Bear Meet.
January 18, 2010
It is sometimes hard to say who performed best, but there were some very big Personal
Bests, some small ones too, and a number of medals to underline the good results.
Let's start with our midget girls. Shaunie Morrison improved her 60m time by .15 sec,
finishing 5th in 8.49. Shaunie finished 5th as well in the 200m (28.38 in the heats).
Sydney Krill equaled her 60m PB in 8.72 and finished 8th in the 300m. Sydney had
an indoor PB in the 200m (28.92). Shaunie won the 60m hurdles, followed by Ashley
Maylan in second. Well done, continuing our Warriors hurdles tradition.
In the youth category (formerly called juvenile), Maria Bernard came back strongly
after injury, winning the 1500m in a indoor PB time of 5:09.36, and winning the
bronze medal in the 800m. Megan MacKay came away with a 7th place in the 60m, an
8th place in the 200m, a 5th place in the hurdles (indoor PB in 10.17, youth
specifications) and a 4th place in the long jump (indoor PB, 4.84m).
Junior Shaina Humble finished 3rd in the Open 800m and 6th in the 400m.
In the midget boys, Matthew Reckord placed 3rd in the 60m as well in the 200m.
Scott MacKay had a very good weekend again, he ran a PB in the 60m (8.03), and he
equaled his PB in the 200m. In the 300m Scott placed 3rd in 40.97 (PB), and in the
800m he won a silver medal in 2:19.66 (PB). Daelin Nordmark had a good meet too
with 6th place in the 200m and a 4th place in the 300m. Eric Smeeton ran a good
200m and he set a new PB in the 300m (43.96). Trevor Hilton and Stephen Payne
ran well in the 800m, capturing 4th and 5th place (indoor PB for Stephen).
Trevor finished 4th in the 1200m as well, followed by Graham Ross in 8th, Stephen
in 9th and Cody Crook in 12th place. Trevor's highest placement came in the 2000m,
where he finished in 2nd spot in 6:42.11. Graham and Cody finished 5th and 6th.
Jeff Hudson did his first long jump event, he only had one legal jump of 4.31m,
but he showed that there will be better jumps in the future. Jeff made the finals
in the 200m where he finished in 28.01.
In the youth men Mackenzie Meek found out that there are more strong sprinters
in Edmonton than in Calgary. He ran a decent 7.60, but that was not fast enough
to get to the final. Mackenzie made the finals in the 200m, running 24.45 in the
heats and finishing in 7th place. Matt Brideson ran an indoor PB in the 200m (25.57).
Nikola Dragicevic ran a very strong 400m, improving his best outdoor time by more
than a second (55.87), followed closely by Matt Brideson (56.09, PB) and brother
Daniel in 56.30 (PB). Daniel ran a very strong 800m, bringing his personal best
down to 2:11.70, good for 5th place.
Impressive is the word for Matthew Galea, who won the 1500 as well as the 3000m,
leading from start to finish. Well done!
In the junior category, Cam Hunter sang his swan song with 7.35 in the 60m (3rd)
and 24.20 in the 200m, followed by Corey Minton in 7.46 and 24.68 in the 200m.
Mihai Prajea finished second in the Open 400m (52.33) and 6th in the 1000m.
At the Athletics Alberta Awards Banquet, Alister McQueen won the 2009 Outstanding
Athlete with a Disability Award. Mihai was nominated for the Outstanding Junior
Award for his 400m hurdles performances. Scott MacKay and Graham Ross received
Bantam Awards. Congratulations to all winners and nominees.

August 29, 2009 - Kayti captures bronze at the Canada Summer Games!
Kayti Simonson captured a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles on the last day of athletics competition. Her time of 1:02.23 was a seasonal best and not far off her PB. Mihai placed 5th in the men's 400m hurdle race in 56.30. Congratulations, well done!
August 2, 2009 - De Laatste Loodjes Wegen het Zwaarst (Dutch saying) - litterally: the last pieces of lead weigh the heaviest (meaning: it is the hardest at the end).
Mihai ran 2:36.13 in the 1000m, having the misfortune to run in the slower heat. He ran a strong race, leading from start to finish. Alister finished his season with 12.26 and 25.12, while Doug P ran 24.63. Jill's debut at the Dutch Senior Nationals gave her a twelfth place in the long jump (5.43m) and an eleventh in the 100m hurdles (15.61). Her long season is finally over, she will be getting a well deserved rest. For Mihai the Canada Summer Games still lie ahead.

-July 27, 2009 - Good Results for Warriors in Belgium meets.
On July 24, everybody competed in Ninove, Belgium. Mihai ran the 1500m,which he hadn't done for a long time. His 4:20.99 was close to his PB, but nothing special, he just needed to get some distance running in his legs, after having trained mainly for the 400m hurdles, in preparation for his 800m two days later. Alister ran 12.23 in the 100m, which was not as fast as he would have liked. Doug Patterson ran a personal best in the 400m: 53.20, winning his age group. Jill finally got her long jump together and jumped an outdoor PB of 5.67m. She ran 14.99 in the 100m hurdles.
On July 26 Jill and Mihai competed in an international meet in Brasschaat, Belgium with competitors out 20 different countries. Jill's hurdles and long jump were not as sharp as two days before (15.14 and 5.35m, winners 13.80 and 6.70m). Mihai ran a very strong race in the 800m, coming trough in about 57 sec in 2nd possition, and passing the leader with 250m to go. Mihai finished strong in a new personal best of 1:56.11, an improvement of 2 sec minus 3/100. Very well done, everybody. One more meet coming up for the boys on Friday evening and for Jill on Saturday/Sunday (Dutch National Senior Championships).
July 23, 2009 - IWAS World Championships Gold for Alister McQueen.
Alister competed in Switzerland at the IWAS World Junior Championships. Alister won Gold in all his events, setting IWAS Junior World Records at the same time: 100m 12.14, 200m 24.59 and 400m in 56.35. IWAS stands for International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation. Congratulations Allister, excellent job!
July 19, 2009 - Canadian Junior Championships: Mihai 5th in the 400m hurdles.
Mihai Prajea got the worst lane possible in the 400m hurdles final (lane 1), but he made the best of it. After a too slow start he picked it up and ran a clean race, finishing 5th in 55.28, only .06 shy of his personal best. Well done and congratulations, Mihai! Calgary International athlete Akeem Haynes (a youth still) was verry impressive by winning the 100m in 10.49 (provincial record) and placing second in the 200m in 21.06 (wind aided). Now off to Holland (Jan, Jill, Mihai, Allister and Doug P.)!
July 18, 2009 - Canadian Junior Championships: Jill 6th in the 100m hurdles.
At the Canadian Junior Championships in Charlottetown, PEI, Jill MacEachen won the B final in 14.83 sec, equaling her Personal Best. Jill came in the finals with the 15th best time only, but showed her competitive spirit once again by decidingly winning her B final, placing 6th place overall. Well done, Jill. The long jump did not go as well, after starting with two fault jumps, her third jump didn't hit the board and the 5.22m that resulted was not good enough to make top-eight. Mihai Prajea placed for the A final in the 400m hurdles after a messy race with a few hard encounters with the hurdles, finishing in 56.37 with the 7th qualifying time. Garret South ran his B final in the 110m hurdles, but he hit the third hurdle so hard he had to take 2x 4 steps to get back on track. 400m hurdles finals go tomorrow. Follow the results on the Athletics Canada website with VERY nice pictures of our athletes as well. Jan's Pictures.
July 17, 2009 ? Megan MacKay selected to the Alberta Legion Team. Team Alberta.
Jill MacEachen and Garrett South make finals at the Canadian Junior Championships, Jill in the long jump (5.44 ? seasonal best) and 100m hurdles, Garrett in the 110m hurdles (15.58 PB). Congratulations! Results.
July 12, 2009 - CSG Trials and Western Midget Championships Day 2.
Mihai Prajea finished second in the 400n hurdles at the Canada Games Trials in a new personal best of 55.22, which means he has a legimite chance to be chosen on the Alberta Summer Games Team. Great Job, Mihai. Kayti Simonson came just short of finishing first in her 400m hurdles race, and although she ran a seasonal best (63.03), her chances of making team Alberta are very slim.
At the Midget meet in Medicine Hat, Megan MacKay continued to do very well by winning the 200m hurdles race in a personal best time of 29.42. Megan finished 5th in the long jump (4.82m). Elisabeth Vathje had a 6th place in the 200m hurdles with a personal best of 30.88. Paul Sands finished 4th in the 200n hurdles, just shy of his personal best.
Well done, everybody!
July 11, 2009 - Western Midget Championships Day 1: Some great performances by our Warriors. Megan MacKay continued her upward trend by setting personal bests in all the events she competed in: 12.60 in the 100m (wind aided), good for second place, 12.68 with legal wind in the prelims; 12.90 in the 80m hurdles and 10.37m in the triple jump (wind aided). Megan was as well a member of the first place finishing 4x100 relay team.
Elisabeth Vathje placed third in the triple jump (10.53m), and Paul Sands ran a PB in the 100m hurdles: 15.08 (wind aided). Way to go, Warriors! More tomorrow!

July 5, 2009 - Warriors perform very well at Provincial Championships in Edmonton – Alister McQueen breaks his own Canadian Record in the 400m.
Alister McQueen broke his Canadian Record in the 400m that he established just a week ago during the Canadian Championships in Toronto. This time he lowered his time by over one second to 56.29. Congratulations, Alister, well done.
This were the Provincial Championships for our junior, youth (formerly called juvenile) and bantam competitors. Several midgets competed in their own age id for the honours.
Provincial Championships medals were captured in the junior category by Jill MacEachen in the long jump (gold) and 100m hurdles (silver), Garrett South in the 110m hurdles (gold) and 400m hurdles (silver), Mihai Prajea in the 400m hurdles (gold), and there was a bronze the 4x100m relay (Garrett, Doug F, Mihai and Alister).
In the youth category, Matthew Galea won the gold medal in the 3000m after an impressive race leading from start to finish, even bettering his Kelowna sea-level personal best by a little over a second. Maria Bernard won the bronze medal in the 800m, and Doug Patterson did the same in the Shot Put.
Bantam boys competed in a multi-event championship – 4 events one day and 4 events the next, leaving it optional to do some or all events. Scott MacKay performed very well capturing gold medals on both days for the overall multi-event titles, setting personal bests in the 80m, 800m (by ten seconds to 2:22.41), discus throw, 1200m and long jump. Graham Ross ran Personal Bests in his 800, 1200 and equaling his best time in the 80m.
In the midget category, Megan MacKay had a very good day by winning the long jump with a Personal Best jump of 5.13m and the 200m in 26.80 (equaling her P.B.). Her 100m heat time of 12.81 was a wind aided personal best. She finished second in the 100m, while Teya Bartel captured third places in the 100 and 200m. Ashley Maylan set a wind aided PB in the 100m (13.77).
Several other Personal Bests were set: Doug Freeman 53.40 and Doug Patterson 53.68 in the 400m, Maria Bernard 5:01.08 in the 1500m, Stephen Payne (5:09.63) and Cody Crook (5:15.81), Shaina Humble came close in the 400m (63.41), and so did Stephanie Graham who in spite of being sick ran very close to her personal bests in the 1500 and 3000m. Kelsey Ross came close to her PB in the 400m, and Kayti Simonson ran a seasonal best of 59.32 in the 400m. Paul Sands wasn’t feeling that great either, had to give up his 400m, but he managed to run a decent 200m against a headwind.
Overall a very good weekend. Great job everybody!
Up next are the Midget Western Canada Championships in Medicine Hat for Megan, Elisabeth and Paul ( Matt injured), the Canada Games trials in Sherwood Park for Kayti, Jill, Mihai and Garrett, followed by Legion Camp for many of our midget and youth athletes. Then Junior Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI (Jill, Mihai, Garrett), the IWAS Junior Championships in Switzerland for Alister, followed by meets in Belgium and Holland for Jill, Mihai, Alister and Doug P. For those who are finished competing: have a great summer and see you back in the fall!

An exciting PB, meet record, club record and win for Elisabeth in the triple jump with an excellent 10.60m, just after finishing her hurdle final, followed in second by Megan with a PB of 9.90m. PBs in the hurdles as well for Megan and Elisabeth, a good 13.12 for Teya in the 100m (PB). The girls won their relay with a lead of about 40m (?), the boys lead by almost 50m getting to the last runner, but were not able to finish the good work done so far. Most of the 300m results were not as good as expected, if you don't start fast enough, you will never be in the race. Nicely done, girls and boys, more tomorrow!
May 30, 2009 - City High School Championships in Calgary, Midget Championships in Medicine Hat.
It will be a hot day in Medicine Hat (31 degrees expected), where our midget athletes compete for the Alberta Titles. Twelve athletes will compete, with several candidates for podium places. The Alberta Midget Team will also be selected at this meet, they will compete in July at the new Western Canada Midget Championships. Most of our junior and juvenile athletes compete in the Calgary High School Championships, trying to earn a spot for the Provincial High School Championships June 5-6 at Glenmore track.
May 24, 2009 - Another great day at the track for the Calgary Warriors.

Lots of Personal Bests again in the Calgary Spring Challenge. More impressive results by our midget girls and boys. Megan MacKay, Elisabeth and Ashley all improved their Personal Bests in the 80m hurdles to 13.42, 13.89 and 14.08 respectively. Megan MacKay improved her long jump PB to 4.92m (3rd). Elisabeth got a second place in the 400m in 64.43. Megan PBed in the 100m as well (13.31), while Teya Bartel posted a time of 13.44. They placed 2nd and 3rd in the final. Both Megan and Sydney Krill ran PBs in the 200m (27.83 and 29.16).
At the boys’ side, Matt Brideson finished 2nd in the 200m in a new PB of 24.91 (into a negative 2.0 wind), Nikola Dragicevic improved his time to 25.96. Matt and Paul Sands placed 2nd and 3rd in the 400m in personal bests of 55.91 and 56.72. Paul got 2nd place his first 300m hurdles race in a very decent 44.70 with a lot of room for improvement. Stephen Payne finished third in the 300m hurdles. Cody Crook ran Personal Bests in the 800 (2:41.71) and 1500m (5:24.74), Daniel Dragicevic finished in second place in the 800m (2:21.56).
Our juvenile boys and girls had some good performances too; Shaina Humle got a PB in the 200m (28.08) and a 2nd place finish in the 400m (64.43), Maria Bernard PBed in 1500m (5:06.20) and got a second place in the 800m (2:28.57). Matthew Galea had a PB in the 1500m (4:45.66), and Doug Patterson came close to his personal bests in the 200 and 400m.
Our juniors achieved the following Personal Bests: 200m: Jill MacEachen 25.82, Doug Freeman 23.47, Alister McQueen equalized his best time (24.86); 400m: Garrett South 53.47. Garrett won the 110m hurdles (16.33), placed 2nd in his first 400m hurdles (58.52), behind Mihai Prajea (57.17?). Cam Hunter ran 11.73 in the 100m.
Jill won the open women’s 100m hurdles and the long jump. Graham Ross ran the new bantam events of 80m and 150m, placing 4th in the 150m.
A good meet for the Warriors. Coming up are the High School divisional meets, the New Balance Athletic Series #2 next Sunday, the Rocky Mountain Relays/Midget Championships in Medicine Hat (May 30-31) and the High School South Central Zone (May 27) and City Championships (May 30).
Warriors Results. Full Results. Pictures.
May 4, 2005 – Good opening of the outdoor season.
Our midget boys and girls performed really well in the first New Balance Athletic Series meet at Glenmore track. Elizabeth Vathje won the 200m in 27.52, followed closely by Teya Bartel in 27.69 for second place. The midget boys took first two places in the 200m as well: Matt Brideson finished first ahead of Paul Sands, both shattering their personal bests with times of 25.08 and 25.23. Nikola Dragicevic finished in forth place, while Dustin Baker improved his indoor time by more than a second.
At the girls’ side, Sydney Krill improved on her 200m indoor time by over a second. Elizabeth and Ashley Maylan made their debut in the 80m hurdles, finishing 3rd and 4th. There is still a lot of room for improving those times. Elizabeth took second place in the long jump with a new personal best of 4.74m.
Cody Crook ran the new midget event of 2000m, he finished 3rd in 7:33.50.
Our juvenile and junior boys and girls competed in the open category. Matthew Galea improved his 3000m time again, bringing it down to 10:25.45 – about 15 sec. faster than his indoor time. Personal bests in the 200m for Doug Freeman (23.62), Alister McQueen (24.86) and Lenny Bogojevic (25.40).
Several of our middle distance runners put on their spikes for the 800m. Nothing spectacular yet, but solid performances with much room for growth.
Well done, Warriors. Next meet May 16-17. Results.
April 26, 2009 – Warriors perform well in Dino Indoor Challenge.
Many personal bests were set in the last indoor meet of the season. Shaina Humble scored two PBs, one in the 60m (8.79) and one in the 800m (2:35.82), an improvement by 10 seconds. Maria Bernard improved her 800m time by 5 seconds to 2:27.73. Sydney Krill ran 9.12 in the 60m (PB), and Elizabeth Vathje PB-ed in 8.63. More PBs in the 60m for Doug Freeman (7.45), Alister McQueen (7.98), Brendan Baker (7.86), Lenny Bogojevic (7.88), Matt Brideson (7.94), Daniel Dragicevic (8.38), Dustin Baker (8.50), Scott MacKay (8.18, BIG PB) and Mat Nowak (10.00).
Mihai Prajea went under 2 minutes for the first time on an indoor track (1:59.34), Matthew Galea scored PBs in the 800m (2:22.66) and the 3000m (10:40.50). Cody Crook ran a strong PB in the 800m, with a time of around 2:34. The Results show a time of 2:30.06, which is probably about 4 seconds faster than his real time, we wait for confirmation of the meet director.
Both the midget boys and girls won their 4x200 relay by a large margin. Well done everybody, things look good for the outdoor season!
In the overall standings over the four meets of the Calgary Indoor Track Series, first places for Scott MacKay and Jill MacEachen, second places for Megan MacKay and Paul Sands and a third place for Matt Brideson. Congratulations!
April 15, 2009 - Member Profiles Updated, Calendar Updated on our website.

Saturday April 25 is our last indoor meet at the UofC.

The newsflashes posted between March 7 and April 15 got lost due to a computer glitch...
March 7, 2009 - Gold for Jill, Silver for Megan and bronze for Matt B on first day of Indoor Championships.
Jill MacEachen captured the gold medal in the long jump on day 1 of the championships with a great personal best jump of 5.71m. Megan MacKay came away with two silver medals, one in the 60m (8.23) and one in the long jump (4.83m). Matt Brideson surprised with a very well executed race in the 400m, braking his personal best by about 2 seconds, finishing in 56.75. Many other good results and personal bests - we will come to that later.
March 3, 2009 - Warriors off to Provincial Indoor Championships.
Thirty-two Warrior athletes will take part in the Provincial Indoor Championships in Edmonton, March 7-8. We expect many good performances, a lot of personal bests and some medals in different colours. For schedule and performance list, check the Athletics Alberta website.
February 22, 2009 - Simplot Games, Pocatello, Idaho.
The first in action during the Simplot Games was Stephanie Graham in the 1600m - 70th place in 5:57.70. To make the finals she would have had to run 20 seconds faster (27 advance to A, B and C finals)
Following day, qualifications in all other events. We started with the 200m boys. Twenty-three heats in the preliminaries. Doug Patterson started off with a decent performance, not as fast as we had hoped, but he had to run in the tight lane one: 25.78. Doug Freeman did a very good job. All heats were performed without spikes, what makes it harder to get a good acceleration. Nevertheless Doug ran his best indoor 200m in a PB of 23.84, good for a 26th place (out of 122).
Then it was time for the 60m hurdles. Jill did well, running 9.19 in flats. She got 8th spot overall, good for the B final on Saturday.
800m came next. Ex-member Jennifer Paul, who traveled and stayed with us, ran in the first heat and came to 2:26.61. Claire Brideson in the next heat had to pay the price for a too fast start, after an opening lap of 30 seconds lap times deteriorated quickly and 2:28.80 was the result. 15th place and a spot in the B final with Jennifer.
At the men's side Mihai Prajea started out strong, but hadn't enough to keep that pace up. The result was a 25th place in 2:04.60 ? just good enough for a place in the C final. Evan Oughton did his usual thing, but sometimes you need a little more than the usual to get ahead. 2:16.30.
The last man in action on Friday was Cameron Hunter. He ran a decent race, had some trouble getting a good grip on the floor in his first strides, came back strong and he finished winning his heat in 7.39 (32nd ).
We saw some great races of Albertans in the preliminaries, Chelsey Graham of Edmonton blew everybody away in the 1600m prelims, Karl Robertson (Leduc), Trevor Sciavone (St. Albert), Isaak Kornelsen (Edmonton) and Paul Mangiel (Brooks) placed easily for the A final in the 800m. That promises a great battle on Saturday.
Saturday morning, an early 8:00 AM start for Jill in hurdles and long jump. Jill got 3rd place in the 60m hurdles B Final in a seasonal bets of 9.07, good for 8th place overall. In the long jump Jill captured the 4 th place with her last jump of 18-02.25 (or 5.54m for most countries in the world), another seasonal best. Well done. During that long jump we had the B and C Finals in the 800m. Claire did very well to win her B Final after a much better race than the day before: 2:22.79, her best time of this indoor season. This gave her 8th place overall. Her strategy of working together with Jennifer Paul paid off. Jennifer improved to 2:25.33. Mihai's race was better too, although still not the expected dip under 2 minutes: 2:02.67 (19th ).
Edmonton's Chelsey Graham was the queen of the 1600m, winning in 5:02.36; Karl Robertson of Leduc had to be very satisfied with his second place in the 800m in the excellent time of 1:53.41. When you know that Mihai beat Karl in last year's high school championships, the question arises: Mihai, Where Art Thou? Rachel Machin won the high jump with a jump of 1.65m.
This was a very good experience for everybody; hopefully we will be able to send a good number of athletes again next year.
February 17, 2009 - Eight Athletes off to Pocatello, ID for the Simplot Games.
Claire Brideson, Stephanie Graham, Jill MacEachem, Doug Freeman, Mihai Prajea, Doug Patterson, Cameron Hunter, Evan Oughton and coach Jan Lips leave Wednesday for Idaho to participate in the Simplot Games, probably the largest high school indoor meets in the USA. Steph comes in action on Thursday night for the heats in the 1600m, Claire, Mihai and Evan run the 800m heats on Friday, while both Dougs participate in the 200m and Cam in the 60m on that same day. Jill runs the 60m hurdles heats on Friday and is an automatic qualifier for the long jump finals on Saturday. All finals will take place on Saturday. Follow the results as they go at the Simplot Games website.
Entries for the 7-8 March Provincial Championships need to be in by Jan on Tuesday February 25!
February 14, 2009 - David Holm breaks the Provincial Indoor Record in the 800m.
Another great race by David Holm during the Iowa State Classic, setting a new personal best of 1:48.86 and breaking the almost 35 year old Alberta Provincial Indoor Record. Great Job, David.
February 9, 2009 – Relay Teams and the MacKays shine in the Alberta Relay and Combined Events Championships.
Although there was a clear lack of competition in many of the relay events, the Warrior teams did very well by winning a total of six gold and three silver medals. The midget boys and junior men captured three gold medals and one silver each. Congratulations.
In the Combined Events Scott MacKay had a great weekend by capturing the title in both the bantam Tetrathlon Speed and the Tetrathlon Stamina with two new club records. He had big personal bests in the shot put and 800m, and he participated in two of the gold winning midget relay teams.
Jill MacEachen won the pentathlon title by the junior girls; she lost her club record in the midget long jump to Megan Mackay who had a very good weekend as well: second in the 60m and 200m with excellent PBs of 8.20 in the 60m and 27.31 in the 200m, and wins in the 60m hurdles and long jump, taking over the 15 year and under club record of Jill with a jump of 4.72m (old 4.71m). Scott took over Mark MacEachen’s stamina club record by the smallest margin as well: 1pt.
There were several more personal bests: Alister, Shaina and Doug P in the 200m, Scott in the long jump, Cody in the 800m and 1500m, Ashley in the 60m and 200m. Well done, everybody.
Check the results for details.
David Holm had another strong day at Eastern Illinois, winning the 1000m in the excellent time of 2:23.41, just shy of the Alberta Provincial Indoor Record.
January 31, 2009 - David Holm: 1:49.60 over 800m

David Holm, Al Holm's son who studies at Eastern Illinois University on a full track scholarship (and still a member of the Calgary Warriors), reached a milestone in his already illustrious track carreer by running the 800m under 1:50 for the first time, beating his best indoor time by over a second and setting a new EIU Lanz Fieldhouse Record. With this time David ranks 3rd in the NCAA for this indoor season. Congratulations, David.
David Holm
January 24, 2009 - Jack Simpson Open - Club Records for Claire Brideson and Mihai Prajea.
Both Claire and Mihai ran strong races to set new club records in the 600m in respectively 1:40.76 and 1:25.02. Several other good performances and personal bests, showing we are going in the right direction. Results. Pictures.
January 18, 2009 - Golden Bear Open - Jill gets to run against two Olympians in the 60m hurdles!
It was a nice surprice that two Olympians showed up to run the hurdles at the Golden Bear meet in Edmonton: Canadian Angela Whyte and the Nigerian Toyin Augustus. Jill ended up in fourth place in the open women's hurdle race (won by Angela Whyte), nothing to be ashamed of, although her time of 9.29 didn't come close to the time she ran in the heats: 9.12, her best time of the season. In between her two hurdle races, Jill won the open women's long jump with a jump of 5.51m, also a seasonal best. Other wins were for Paul Sands in the 400m and Daniel Dragicevic in the 800m. Stephanie Graham had a great weekend with second places in both the 1500m and the 3000m with personal bests in either event, bettering her 3000m time by 18 seconds to 11:23.70 for a new club record. Scott Mackey had a great meet too with a first in the 200m, second in the 60m and shot put and 4th in the 800m Bantam Boys. Sister Megan came away with a PB in the 60m hurdles for 3rd place in 9.73. Maria Bernard won a bronze in her first 1500m, and Mat Brideson did the same in the 400m. Greg Ray ran a very good 400m in 53.78 to finish second on borrowed spikes that were a few sizes too big. Cam Hunter also grabbed a bronze in the 60m. We never had midgets or first year juveniles run an indoor 3000m, so Cody Crook and Matthew Galea are the new club record holders in the 3000m. Congratulations to all. A great weekend again for the Warriors. Complete Results.

January 11, 2009 - Golden Bear Open and Athletics Alberta Awards Night
Twenty-seven Warriors will go up to Edmonton on Friday to compete in the Golden Bear Open indoor meet. Saturday night the 17th, the annual Athletics Awards Banquet will take place in the Fantasy Land Hotel. Nominated for outstanding athlete of the year in the Juvenile Girls category are Jill MacEachen of Airdrie and Rachel Machin of Calgary, together with Loudia Laarman (Lethbridge), Laura Affeld (Stoney Plane) and Lauren Simpson (Edmonton). Stephen Payne will receive a top-ten Bantam Award. Congratulations to the nominees.
January 3, 2009 - Dino Classic: Some good and some very good results!
First places for Jill MacEachen in the 60m hurdles and Long Jump (5.49m), Paul Sands in the 300m and Scott MacKay in the 60m and 300m. Second places for Ashley Maylan in the 300m, Megan MacKay in the 60m Hurdles, Paul Sands in the 60m, Matt Brideson in the 300m and Garrett South in the 60m Hurdles. Third place finishes for Megan MacKay in the 60m, Teya Bartel in the 300m and Stephen Payne in the 1000m.
A large number of personal bests were broken again. Paul Sands ran under 8 seconds in the 60m for the first time (7.97) and he took about 4 seconds of his 300m time of last year (40.52). Megan MacKay and Teya Bartel sharpened their 60m times with 8.32 and 8.36 respectively, while Teya ran her first 300 surprisingly well in 45.93. Ashley Maylan improved her times both in the 60m and 300m (8.92 and 48.18), Elisabeth Vathje came to 8.65 in the 60m. Scott MacKay ran faster again in the 60m (8.42), and Matt Brideson equaled his PB in the 60m (8.13) and he went faster again in the 300m: 41.38. Garret South ran Personal Bests in the 60m (7.65) and 300m (39.68), while his first 60m hurdle race gave him a few problems, but the time was not too bad: 9.28 sec. That means under 9 sec in the next race. Megan MacKay debuted in the 60m hurdles as well, and although she hit the second hurdle which slowed her down, she finished well in 10.19 for second place. Alister McQueen improved his former 300m time to 42.08, Lenny Bogojevic to 42.10, and he scored 5.68m in the Long Jump.
Both Cam Hunter and Doug Freeman made in to the B final in the 60m, where they ran 7.33 and 7.56. Cam improved his 300m time to 39.44.
We had for the first time girls triple jumping in the indoor season, so Elisabeth Vathje’s jump of 9.88m will be the new club record. Megan MacKay was not far behind with 9.74m.
Well done everybody! Results.

December 6, 2008 - Dino Opener - University of Calgary
The Calgary Warriors had some very good results at the Dino Opener. First places for Jill MacEachen in the 100m hurdles, and for the 4x200m midget relay (Kelcey Miller, Megan MacKay, Josée Ostrosser and Elisabeth Vathje) at the girls’ side, and for Paul Sands in his first ever 800m, Scot MacKay in the 60m and 300m, and the midget 4x200m (Lenny Bogojevic, Daniel Dragicevic, Matt Brideson and Paul Sands) at the boys’ side. Second places for Megan MacKay in the 60m, Matthew Brideson in the 300m and Stephen Payne in the 800m. Third place finishes for Josée Ostrosser and Teya Bartel in the 60m. Several new Indoor Club Records and Personal Bests.
New Personal Bests (I won’t mention athletes who ran their event for the first time):
60m:
Megan MacKay 8.38
Paul Sands 8.01 (new club record 14 year olds)
Matt Brideson 8.13
Alister McQueen 8.15
Koby Hannem 7.47
300m:
Matt Brideson 41.83 (new club record 14 year olds)
800m:
Evan Oughton 2:12.50
3000m:
Stephanie Graham 11:41.47 (new club record)
Since we didn’t have a club record in the 3000m juvenile girls, this is a new club record for 16 year olds and 17 year olds. It is as well a new club record for junior and senior women (old 11:55.92). Well done, Stephanie.
Scott MacKay came away with two very good wins in the 60m in 8.61 (a new club record for 12 year olds) and 300m in 44.76, another new club record. Good job, Scott.
Cam Hunter opened with a deserving 7.33 in the 60m, making it to the top 6 in the open men’s race.
Other good performances by our debutants Teya Bartel with 8.46 in the 60m, Maria Bernard in the 800m (2:33.09) and Daniel Dragicevic in the 800m (2:25.43).
Our other first timers performed well too, and because we are still just starting out, things will get much better still.

December 2, 2008 - Our Annual General Meeting and Awards Night will be on Thursday December 18 at 7:00pm at Centennial High School. There will be no practice.
November 29, 2008 - Last Chance Meet - Edmonton
The Last Chance Meet is a last chance to break some records or personal bests before everybody moves up a year by January 1. Jill was eager to attack the Provincial Record for 17 year olds in the 60 meter hurdles, but she failed to drive hard towards the first hurdle and needed one step too many to clear the obstacle, forcing her to make another extra step to rectify the count. Her 9.33 was disapointing, but luckily there is another 'last chance' next week. Ex-Warrior Rachel Machin succeeded to brake her own Provincial Record for 16 year olds and she dipped under 9 seconds for the first time: 8.90. Jill won the long jump with a jump of 5.32m, not bad after not having practiced the long jump since August.
Stephanie Graham had to run her 1500m without much opposition. Leading from start to finish she won in 5:19.63, six seconds above her outdoor best (but an indoor PB). Mihai Prajea ran a good 400m, placing second in 52.19, an indoor personal best. In the 800m he took it out a little too slow (62 sec for the first 400m), and being passed around the next corner he faild to hang in there with the leaders, finishing third in 2:04.12 . Stephen Payne had to deal with some nerves and an upset stomach, so his tetrathlon didn't go as well as he had hoped. He finished in 4th place. Photos. Results.

August 10, 2008 - Canadian Legion and Youth Championships - Day 2
The second day of the championships brought disappointment for our two Warriors competing in individual events. Jill's triple jump was not very good, hindered by sore feet she didn't make the top eight and jumped about a meter under her best jump (9.98m). Her 3rd jump was of better quality, but just fault. Mihai started strong in the 400m hurdles running in second place half way, but then he started hitting hurdle after hurdle which slowed him down a lot, and then he fell over the last hurdle, stood up and finished in 59.57 for tenth place overall. Jill, Rachel and Mihai took part in the 4x100m women's and men's Alberta relay teams, both teams got fourth place. Team Alberta ended up third overall behind Ontario and B.C, but before Quebec, and that hasn't hapened in a long time. The end of a long season... Results. Pictures.
August 9, 2008 - Alberta Summer Games
Six Warrior athletes took part in the Alberta Summer Games: Robynne Thompson, Claire Brideson, Josee Ostrosser, Megan MacKay, Cam Hunter and Doug Patterson. The results show clearly that you cannot expect to get great results without doing the necessary training for it. Robynne and Claire won bronze medals in respectively the 400m and 800m. They were also members of the Calgary zone gold winning medley relay team. Cam placed 4th in the 100 and 200m. Doug ran a good 400m in 55.60 and Cam and Doug were part of the 4x100m team that won the gold medal. Megan got 5th place in the long jump (4.50m) and Josee 6th in the 100m. Results.
August 9, 2008 - Canadian Legion and Youth Championships - Day 1
Jill: 100mH 14.32 (3rd), LJ 5.49m (4th).
Rachel: 100mH 14.94 (7th), HJ 1.60m (shared 5th), LJ 5.22m (7th).
Mihai: Silver in the 4x400m relay.
A not so great start kept Jill from winning silver in the 100m hurdles. She was 2/100 of a second shy of second place after coming on strong in the last part of the race. Her 14.32 was a personal best and new club record, good for the bronze medal.. Rachel ran a good race, finishing in her second best time ever. She had a very good series in the long jump, but trouble hitting the board (5.21 and 5.22 each twice, without hitting the board). 5.50m would have been possible. Her high jmp was interrupted by the hurdle heats, which made it a difficult event (again). Jill had some difficulty getting going in the long jump at first, saving her best jump till last. Mihai ran a mediocre 400m in lane one (53.93), saving his energy for the more important 400m hurdles tomorrow. He did much better in the 4x400m where team Alberta captured a silver medal. Congratulations, Warriors! Results Day 1.
August 6, 2008 - Jill, Rachel and Mihai off to Canadian Youth Championships.
Today Jill MacEachen, Rachel Machin and Mihai Prajea left for Legion Nationals in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The track at Sherbrooke University is one of the fastest in Canada, boasting a Mondo surface. Jill will compete in the 100m hurdles, long jump and triple jump, Rachel in the 100m hurdles, long jump and high jump and Mihai in the 400m and the 400m hurdles. They will also compete in the 4x100m relay and Mihai in the 4x400m. The competition in the juvenile category is the official Canadian Youth Championships with entries through the Legion program and outside the Legion (first time this year). So there will be even tougher competition than in previous years. We wish them good fortune in all their events.
July 29, 2008 - Alister McQueen wins silver in the 100m and 200m at the IWAS Junior World Games.
At the IWAS (International Weelchair and Amputees Sports Federation)
Junior World Games in Piscataway, New Jersey, Alister ran 12.37 in the 100m (Personal Best) and 25.33 in the 200m, good for 2nd place in both events. Athletes from all over the world participated in this meet. Congratulations, Alister.
July 27, 2008 - Junior Nationals Day 3 - Kayti's Day.
On the last day of the championships, Kayti Simonson shocked our world by performing the 'impossible'. After a season of injuries and lacklustre performances - even the previous day in the semi-finals - suddenly the tide turned and Kayti exceeded herself by running the B final of the 400m hurdles in a new personal best of 61.88 (previously 62.49), good for an 8th place overall. It shows how you with a positive attitude and concentration on the goal can achieve 'the impossible'. Congratulations, Kayti! Jill won a silver medal as a member of the 4x100 Alberta relay team. Jenny Rintoul (Edmonton), Jill MacEachen (Airdrie), Lacy Miller (Coaldale) and Loudia Laarman (Lethbridge) ran a good time of 48.08, finishing behind Manitoba, but before B.C. Well done.
July 26, 2008 - Junior Nationals Day 2 - Warriors and Team Alberta Pictures

Rachel, Kayti and Jill at Junior Nationals
Jill won the B-Final in the 100m hurdles in the personal best time of 14.83 for an overall 8th place finish. Well done, Jill. Rachel Machin did a great job in the high jump. After clearing 1.65m she just missed 1.68m in her first attempt. Then she had to run the hurdles B-Final (15.12 for overall 12th place), and when she came back to high jump the bar was at 1.71m. She had one pretty good attempt at 1.71, didn't clear, but a very good high jump day for Rachel, finishing in 9th spot as a first year juvenile. Well done. In the long jump final Rachel grabed 9th place as well, jumping 5.15m. Kayti placed for the B-final in the 400m hurdles, her heat time was 64.55.

July 25, 2008 - Junior Nationals Day1
Both Jill and Rachel placed for the B Final in the 100m hurdles. Jill was unlucky to hit the first hurdle which may have cost her a spot in the A final. Jill was unlucky in the long jump qualification too. She faulted her first jump by just a little bit in a jump that would easily qualify her. Then she faulted her second jump. Her last jump was only 5.21m, which ranked her 13th (top 12 qualify). Rachel had a solid first jump (5.32m) that put her in the long jump finals tomorrow. She will be a busy body with finals in the 100m hurdles, high jump and long jump. Results.

Robynne ran her first 400m hurdles and managed to win the gold in 67.07. Claire had no competition in the 800m because Jean Bolen is suffering a stress fracture. Jill, favorite for the title already, did what was expected by winning the triple jump (10.88m). Stephen did well in the bantam combined events existing out of the 200m, long jump, shot put and 800m after the day before conquering the hurdles, ball throw, high jump and 1000m. Mihai finished third in the 800m in 1:58.80.

Results. Pictures. Note regarding the pictures - because of coaching duties I don't have pictures of everybody :-(
June 28, 2008 - Alberta Age Class Championships
First Day Results: Gold for Rachel Machin in the 100m hurdles juvenile, high jump juvenile and long jump junior. Gold for Jill MacEachen in the long jump juvenile. Gold for the 4x100m juvenile girls (Josée Ostrosser, Megan MacKay, Robynne Thompson and Jill MacEachen). Silver for Jill in the 100m hurdles, for Robynne Thompson in the 400m and Garret South in the 110m hurdles. Silver for the 4x100m juvenile boys (Cam Hunter, Doug Freeman, Mihai Prajea and Alister McQueen). Bronze for Stephen Payne in the bantam combined events.
Rachel had a personal best in the 100m hurdles heats: 14.88 against a negative wind, so there is still room for improvement. She as well had a legal personal best in the long jump: 5.27m against a 2.5m/sec. headwind.
Jill is slowly approaching the hurdle times she ran last year, 14.99 was her best time and seasonal best this meet, and she jumped 5.33m in the long jump. Garrett South's time in the 110m hurdles was 16.95 (PB).
I don't have all the exact results yet of all our other participants, but what I know is that Josée Ostrosser had a personal best in the long jump (4.89m) good for 4th , while Megan Mackay (competing in the Midget Dual Meet) placed 6th with 4.67m. Claire Brideson placed 4th in the 400m, Cam Hunter placed 5th in the 100m (11.43). Jennifer Paul ran well in the 1500m (Midget Dual), with a time of around 5 min. she placed 3rd .
Both Paul Sands and Matthew Brideson ran personal bests in the 400m (58.99 and 59.37 respectively). Matt can now boast that he ran faster than his sister. Claire ran 61.65 and Shaina Humble ran 64.04 in the 400m. Both Dougs (Freeman and Patterson) ran the 400m as well, Doug F experiencing that lack of training because of health reasons makes you slower (Freeman 56.76, Patterson 57.09). Mihai Prajea found out that it is not smart to play tennis the day before a meet. 53.31 was the result.
Stephen Payne and Cody Crook ran very well in the 1000m Bantam Boys with 3:16.14 (P.B.) and 3:25.55 respectively. A good day for the Warriors. Congratulations to all.

June 1, 2008 - New Balance Athletic Series #2
Lesson #1 - never leave with your draw prize ticket in your pocket. If you don't want to stay, give it to someone else to collect your price! Two people with winning tickets (shoes/spikes) left prematurely... Your coach Jan stayed around and won a pair of running shoes! The girls 4x800 still get their socks (1 pair each, the boys got 2 pairs).
Jill won the triple jump with a wind-aided peersonal best of 11.09m. Josee Ostrosser placed 3rd in the 100m and Kelcey Miller 3rd in the 300m hurdles. Doug Freeman ran personal bests in the 100m (11.84 and 11.73 wind aided) and in the 400m (54.47). Results.

May 17-18, 2008 - Calgary Spring Challenge and Combined Events meet
Calgary Warriors competed very well in the Calgary Spring Challenge and Combined Events meet. At least 20 top-three finishes and handfuls of personal bests.
Jill MacEachen was again our top performer with four first places (100m, 200m, 100mH and Long jump). Her 25.93 in the 200m is a strong new personal best. Mihai Prajea scored two top finishes in the 400m (51.48) and 400m hurdles (56.75 for a PB), and he placed 3rd in the 800m. Robynne Thompson won her 400m race in a promising 60.30, and she placed 3 rd in the 200m. Claire Brideson ran a strong race from start to finish in the 800m in 2:21.88, finishing first ahead of Jean Bolen, who finished 3rd in the 1500m. Claire added a 3rd place finish in the 400m. Cam Hunter won the 100m race, his time being not up to par yet after injury and illness. In the 200m he finished 2nd.
Rachel Machin took on the heptathlon and she did that in a grand way. She broke the provincial record by over 100 points, for a total of 4301 points. The very strong 800m runner Laura Affeld (Edmonton Harriers) scored 55 points more however, so she will go in the record books. Undoubtedly Rachel’s best performance of the weekend was her 1.67m high jump, 5cm better than her PB from California during spring training. With 15.09 in the hurdles, 8.35m in the shot put, 27.61 in the 200m (PB), 5.18 in the long jump, 25.54 in the javelin throw and 2:40.44 in the 800m (PB), she had a great heptathlon.
Josée Ostrosser had a very good weekend with second place finishes in the 100m (13.14 in the heats), 200m in 26.85 and long jump (4.88m), all PBs. Megan MacKay did very well in the 100m (3 rd place, 13.45 in the heats) and she took part in the pentathlon where she got 4.75m in the long jump. Kelcey Miller did well in her first meet, running her first hurdles race for 7th spot and placing 6th in the 100m.
Kayti Simonson finished 3rd in the 400m hurdles. Matt Brideson had a PB in the 100m (13.37), 200m (26.94) and 400m (60.55). Melissa Carruthers PB-ed in the 200m. Alister McQueen scored another PB in the 200m: 24.92 - well done. Stephen Payne competed in the Tetrathlon stamina, where finished first overall with 1067 pts. Great Job.
The Calgary Warriors Juvenile/Midget team won second place behind CALTAF in the Team Challenge. Congratulations to all participants.
Results. Combined Events Results. Team results.

March 29, 2008 - Mt. Carmel Invitational
Some people were sick or somewhat injured and were not able to compete in their individual events. The 4x800 team girls got 5th place in the 23 team strong event, well done. There were medals for top-5 finishers in each heat, 4x100 boys and girls ended up with 5th place medals. Rachel Machin finished 3th overall in the .84cm hurdles in 15.09, very well done indeed, 4th in the high jump and 8th in the long jump. Jill MacEachen got 5th place in the long jump. She fell in the 100m hurdle race and was not able to complete her last 3 jumps in the long jump. Results for our Centennial High School Athletes. Tomorrow we will have our final meet: Mt. Carmel Invitational. Not everybodey will compete in the individual events because of the limited space in a very high quality meet. March 27, 2008 - Spring Training Camp Update
Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, south of San Diego. In the afternoon everyone (except Kayti who has an injured adductor) was able to run a 100m or 400m during a high school dual meet at the track where we are training. The results show that everyone is somewhat tired, having two practices a day for most of the week. Results. Pictures.

March 22, 2008 - Warriors compete at Falcon Relays in San Diego, CA
The first competition of our spring training camp brought some very good results. Our top performer in the High School meet was Rachel Machin who won the 100m hurdles in 15.28 and the long jump with a jump of 5.42m. Rachel placed second in the high jump with 1.62m, all excellent personal bests. A very good showing as well by Cam Hunter who won the Division 2 100m in a new personal best of 11.25. The 4x100m both boys and girls won with ease their races (44.97 and 50.60). Jean Bolen ran very well in the 800m, placing second in 2:19.32, and Koby Hannem ran a PB in the 400m (50.76), good for second. Jill MacEachen, still recovering from a nasty flu that didn't enable her to train very much the last three weeks, placed second in the long jump (5.33m) and in the hurdles (15.58) behind Rachel. Claire Brideson won third place in the 400m in 62.05 sec. Alex Tooby ran in a different (College) meet, were she finished 7th in the finals of the 100m (13.17) after running 13.12 in the heats against a -2.2 head wind. Alex ran 27.13 in the 200m. Results.

Cam Hunter winning the 100m in a very close race at the Falcon Relays in San Diego, CA

March 6, 2008 - Indoor Club Records and All-Time Indoor Rankings Updated. Club Records.
March 2, 2008 - Rachel Machin sets new Provincial Record in the 60m hurdles 16 & under, double gold for Jill MacEachen (60mH and LJ), gold for Cameron Hunter (60m) end Rachel Machin (HJ). Silver for Jill (60m), Jean Bolen (1500m), Rachel (LJ and 60mH), Jennifer Paul (800m, 1500m), Cam (200m) and Mihai Prajea(400m), bronse for Claire Brideson (800m), Koby Hannem (400m) and Mihai (800m).
The new Provincial Record in the 60m hurdles for Rachel Machin in the Juvenile 16 & under category, was one of the highlights of the Provincial Indoor Championships. She took over the record previously held by Jill MacEachen, beating it by 0.17 seconds after a close race that Jill won by a hair: 9.05 and 9.06 (9.046 and 9.051 to be exact, which is only a 5/1000 of a second difference). Jill’s ill-health prevented her from running under 9 seconds, so we have to wait for her attack on the 17 & under record till the end of the year. Her personal best of 7.98 the previous day in the 60m without hurdles – good for a 2nd place behind Loudia Laarman – promises great hurdle times in the outdoor season.
Another highlight was Cameron Hunter’s golden performance in the Juvenile Boys 60m. He was the strength of the field, winning convincingly in the personal best and new club record time of 7.24. Very strong performances as well by Claire Brideson, who smashed her personal bests in the 400m and 800m, setting a new club record in the 800m (16 & under) in 2:21.84, Jean Bolen (1500m in 4:53.36 – club record), Jennifer Paul with two great races in the 800m and 1500m (2:23.71 and 5:00.41 for two new club records) and Mihai Prajea who updated the club record list in the 400m and 800m with his times of 52.78 and 2:00.79.
There were about 45 personal bests in this meet for our Warriors, too many to mention them all, so check it out by clicking the Warriors Results link. I want to mention a few: Stephanie Chins great debut in the 800m (2:33.16), Alex Tooby’s 8.18 in the 60m, Kelsey Ross’ 800 (2:39.47) and 1500m (5:36.01, an improvement by 20 seconds), Sara Lopez’ 800m (2:39.25), Stephen Payne’s 800m (2:27.61), having improved his time in every race he ran this indoor season, and Matt Brideson’s 400m (60.73), staying ahead of his sister again.
Congratulations to all, well done and we cannot wait to see what is going to happen during the upcoming outdoor season. Warriors Results. Complete Results.
February 25, 2008 - Warriors head to Edmonton coming week-end for Indoor Provincial Championships.

February 16, 2008 - Jean, Jill and Rachel had EXCELLENT performances at the Simplot Games in Idaho.
. . .
About 2000 high school athletes from 22 states and Canada, 23 heats in the boys 400m, 17 heats in the girls 60m hurdles, 72 girls entered in the long jump, imagine – and all events ran on time! A very high level meet, just look at the results on the Simplot games website.
Jill MacEachen came up with the best placing: 6th in the 60m hurdles in a new personal best of 9.05, finishing as the first 11th grader. Next to that she placed 7th in the long jump with a jump of 5.37m. Great job, Jill. Video hurdles.
Then what to say about Jean Bolen. Jean ran a perfect race (and you run a perfect race only a few times in your life). She came into the B final as the slowest qualifier, but finished first for an overall 8 th place in an outstanding new personal best of 2:18.14. Very well done, Jean. Video 800m.
Finally our Benjamin Rachel Machin. She finished an overall 10th in the 60m hurdles in a great new personal best of 9.11, being the highest placed 10th grader in the hurdles.
Besides that she earned a joined 10th place in the high jump (1.52m). Congratulations, Rachel. Video hurdles.

February 15, 2008, Pocatello, ID – Warriors make it to finals in Simplot Games.
Jill was the first to qualify for a final by jumping over the qualifying standard of 5.11m in her first jump. Only 8 girls achieved this standard, so a top-8 spot is assured.
Rachel qualified with ease for the high jump finals, 21 girls made the qualifying height of 1.49m.
Both Jill and Rachel qualified for the hurdle finals, grabbing 11th and 13th spot in the prelims. Times 9.36 and 9.50 on flats, 18 girls qualify.
Jean took 19th spot to place for the 800m finals (27 qualify), time 2:23.48. Results.
February 9-10, 2008 – Provincial Indoor Relay and Combined Events Championships: Warriors Dominate the Relays.
Warriors relay teams took 11 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals in the Provincial Relay Championships. It is true that the competition was disappointing, many clubs showing no interest in competing at all, but many of the performances by the Warriors teams were of high quality with provincial records in the midget and juvenile girls medley relays (400-200-200-800) and in the 4x100m juvenile boys.
Laura Haigh, Megan MacKay, Josée Ostrosser and Jennifer Paul broke the old midget medley relay record by 17 seconds, posting a time of 4:35.06. Claire Brideson, Robynne Thompson, Jill MacEachen and Jean Bolen scored 4:21.10 in the juvenile girls medley, braking the old record by 22 seconds. Well done, ladies. Our strong juvenile boys’ team, existing as always of Cam, Doug F, Mihai and Keaton, broke their own 4x100m record, setting a new time of 45.84. Congratulations!
In the Combined Events part we had an outstanding performance by Rachel Machin, winning the pentathlon juvenile girls in convincing manner, setting a new provincial record in the process and scoring personal bests in 4 out of 5 events. Her results: 60mH 9.37, HJ 1.57, SP 8.95, LJ 5.29m and 2:45.32 in the 800m for a total of 3149 points (old record 2895 pts, and only 18 points shy of the record for 17 year olds!).
Another outstanding performance was delivered by Jill MacEachen in the long jump with an excellent effort of 5.64m, showing that she is on her way to a great season again. Jill and Rachel ran the junior height hurdles as preparation for the meet in Idaho next weekend, showing that they are ready for performing well in the Simplot Games where the top high school athletes from the USA will give ‘acte de présence.’ Rachel almost beat Jill, having a slight lead at the first 4 out of 5 hurdles, but Jill pressed just a little harder towards the finish line: 9.27 (PB) and 9.31 (PB).
Many more personal bests again this meet:
Stephen Payne in the 800m (2:29.01) – running faster every meet, long jump (3.78m) and shot put (5.59m), Josée Ostrosser (27.73), Cam Hunter (23.86) and Chris Moss (26.23) in the 200m, Alister McQueen in the 60m (8.29) and Kris de Palezieux (2:11.29) and Jimmy Machin (2:14.97) in the 800m. Danielle Cant made an excellent debut in the midget girls 200m in 28.21.
Overall a great weekend again for the Calgary Warriors. Results.
Upcoming meets: Simplot Games, Pocatello, Idaho: February 15-16.
Good luck to Rachel Machin, Jill MacEachen, Jean Bolen and Koby Hannem who will be competing there against North America’s best.

February 2, 2008 - Warriors perform well in the Jack Simpson Open with wins for Stephen Payne in the 400m and 1000m for 13 year olds, Matt Brideson in the 400m (14y olds) in 62.21, which is a new club record, Megan MacKay in the 60m (8.42, 14y olds), Jill MacEachen in the 60m hurdles (9.09, equaling her PB) and the 60m (8.08 PB) and Koby Hannem in the 400m (52.24 indoor PB). Our brand new and youngest members Kathleen Chin and Tianna Lombardo finished 2nd and 3rd in their first 60m for 12 year olds, Danielle Cant equaled her PB in the 60m (8.48, 14y olds) and finished second, while Matthew Brideson took again a few hundredths of his best 60m time (8.35, 3 rd place 14y olds). Paul Sands finished 2nd in the 400m, even as Robynne Thompson who finished strong in 62.33 in the open women’s race. Ashleigh Abrams ran a good 1000m, finishing 3rd in the 14y category, while Jennifer Paul moved up to the open race to finish 3rd there in 3:08.18, which is a new club record. The midget girls (Danielle Cant, Stephanie Chin, Jenna Anthony and Megan MacKay) blew away the field in the 4x200m. Rachel Machin clipped the first hurdle but saved herself to finish in 2nd place behind Jill. Alister McQueen was a little disappointed that the world record holder in the 100m for above the knee amputees didn't show up, but he still ran well, close to his PB. Well done Warriors. Complete results. Rankings after 3 meets .
